[Nan:]
Down along the valley by the willows and the stream
There's a little fairy that I know.
Watch across the meadows for a tiny pixy gleam,
That is where she's flying to and fro,
Nearly ev'ry night
I can see her light
Flicker in the shadows ev'rywhere;
After her I race,
Just to see her face,
But there isn't any fairy there!
When I try to catch my little fairy,
She's too quick and wary,
Just a figure airy!
On her wings that oh! so gaily glitter,
She will always flitter on!
She's gone!
I am just as fond of fun as any little lass;
Why should fairies always dance alone?
I should like to learn the way to flit above the grass,
With a pixy lantern of my own.
Once, you know, I thought
I should her have caught,
Creeping up before she was aware!
Then I made a leap;
Oh, the pond was deep!
But there wasn't any fairy there!
When I try to catch my little fairy,
She's too quick and wary,
Just a figure airy!
On her wings that oh! so gaily glitter,
She will always flitter on!
She's gone!
