The Restaurant (sheet 2)
[Waiter:] And so, a quick replacement has been sought,
And here am I, alone, to hold the fort!
I'm the cook and I'm the kitchen boy and chief washer-up,
And I do the work of waiters and I have to peel potatoes,
I'm the Managing Director and the Chief Cashier,
For I am the only person here.   But, stay!   No longer I'm alone, my statement was a lie,
for I can hear a customer drawing nigh!   (the waiter exits, re-enters as a customer, and sits at table)
[Customer:] Waiter!   Waiter!   Hurry and appear, for I have long been waiting here.
Waiter!   Waiter!   I have long been waiting, long been waiting here.   (exit, and return as Waiter)
[Waiter:] Oh, sir, I do apologise for having kept you waiting,
I've been issuing instructions to the cook.   (change places - by now the audience will understand!)
[Customer:] I haven't time to listen to the tales you are relating;
Bring me the menu, please, I want to have a look.
